Hi everyone--here are some of the themes you class came up with on the first day of class. Although you're not in groups yet, it would be a good exercise to start thinking about art exhibitions that show how these ideas have been expressed visually. Look through your textbook and find at least one work of art that you think deals with these themes. Post your answers by Friday (Feb. 4) and we'll discuss them in class then.
Intimacy

Gender roles
umberto boccioni, unique forms of continuity in space, 1913
ReplyDeleteI thought that this piece could be used as an example of travel, the male body, sports and gender roles. I really like the way he is traveling/running in such a fluid movement. As for 'sports' it looks almost like a time-lapse of a picture of someone running in a cross country race. I also find it interesting that it is not clear whether it is supposed to be female or male.
